Is there any sense of time on the other side? For example, wouldn't a ghost haunting the same area for 100 years become restless, especially if it had not realized that it had died? Also, if you had contacted someone who had passed away, would it be possible for their spirit to already be back on Earth in another body, so that you would not be able to contact them anymore? These are subjects that I have always been curious about. Thanks!

There is a sense of time on the Otherside, but it is not human/ Earth time. It has been said that 1000 years can be like one day and vice versa over there. Time really has no relevance in that world; it is a very subjective thing. We are the ones who give time all of its meaning.
As for your example of the 100-year haunting, it would all depend on the entity haunting the place. Some spirits are very restless, and some are not. I have a ghost in my house that is almost 70 years "old" now. She putters around and has no desire to leave. She seems fine with the passing of time, but she also knows she is dead. If a spirit does not know that she/he is dead, then each day becomes the same thing over and over. Some spirits do become agitated and confused with the "Groundhog Day" aspect of their "lives." It just keeps repeating. If you feel ghostly energy around you, simply say into the air, "You are dead. Everyone you love is through the light. Go through the light and you will find everyone." Sometimes you can feel them RUSHING to the light. Others, like my ghost, choose to stay.
The reason time matters to us is because we use it to plan. If we are waiting for something, we need to know how much longer we have to wait. "How long until five o'clock?" "How long until my vacation?" "I have to get up in six hours." "She will be going to college in the fall." The examples go on and on and on. On the Otherside, no one is waiting for anything. Everyone is fully living in the NOW. If we all lived fully in the NOW, we would not need time here either.
Now we move to your question about channeling. I cannot go find someone - they have to come to me. Our souls carry energy along from life to life. If I am able to channel someone, it is because that soul or some higher power wants that soul to talk to me and relay a message or information. Energy does not have to specifically stay on the Otherside. It CAN come back through to this world. Our thoughts and energies are always traveling from our minds/souls to other places. There is no reason why the soul of someone who is already back in another body on THIS side could not speak to me and fully remember that other life as your friend or relative. We do remember our past lives. Most of the time we just do not believe it so we assume that deja vu is meaningless.

Time exists on the Other Side, but not the same way it does for us. When talking to the Departed, I've often found they are confused about time in our sense of it. They may forget how old someone they knew is, or when their birthdays are, and even their OWN birthdays don't seem to register with them. I try not to talk about time when I'm speaking with them, unless it is important to the Departed Person. It isn't that they don't CARE about us and keeping up with what's happening here, it's that they are having such a BIG TIME in Heaven, and they can't be bothered with something so unimportant as how the minutes and hours are passing in our lives.
Most of the time, we have Celestial Incarnations between our Earthly ones, so our Souls are able to rest and recuperate. There is no question in my mind that Souls return to relive and relearn. Reincarnation is one thing I believe in wholeheartedly. I feel God gives us many chances and many CHANGES to get things right. If, for instance, a good Granny crosses over and then a new baby is born, is there a good chance that Granny has come right back to Earth to help the rest of us on our Journeys? Of course! How do you tell? I can tell because, as you said, I am not able to contact that person on the Other Side any longer.
I've always been fascinated with the idea of a soul returning instantly to be born into another human body. I KNOW that happens! It is tricky, because when most people leave the Earth Plane, they spend about a "year on the beach." It often takes a year or even two after Death before a person can begin to communicate with Loved Ones here. In extreme cases, however, I HAVE seen this happen. If a child is being tortured by a parent, the grandparent may return as a sibling ally to that child. If a married couple is fighting all the time, one or more of their relatives might return as their children to straighten them out! They agree to return without the foreknowledge of their prior selves and/or personalities, but they are not by any means a "new soul" or a "one-timer" (someone who is only here on Earth once).
As for a ghost getting restless after haunting the same place for a long time, that's what exorcists are for. Depending on how long the spirit has been attached to a certain area, freeing earthbound entities can be tough. The longer a spirit is earthbound, the harder it tends to be to dispatch it to Heaven. (This is an entirely separate issue from souls returning, however.)
