I had a dream/vision. I was at the home of a friend I haven't seen or communicated with in a while. The house was different but there was a wolf-like dog there. His eyes were very intense. He followed me through the house, determined that I listen to what he was trying to communicate to me. I didn't want to because his eyes were so intense. I finally listened but I can't remember what he was telling me. I contacted my friend and described the dog in detail. He said he had just gotten a dog exactly like the one I described both in looks and temperament. Why would this dog's spirit come to me? I don't feel it is symbolic.

Fairy tales and legends often paint unpleasant pictures of many of our furry friends, but wolves get a lot more bad press than most. It's completely unreasonable to judge as ferocious and evil an animal who mates for life, loves his children, and loves humans, too. (After all, wolves evolve into dogs, and dogs are man's best friend.)
Wolves are faithful, honest and true. There is a great book about wolves called The Territorial Imperative, which describes all the positive traits of those animals. If you can find a copy in the library, I highly recommend it. It's an old book, and I'm sure there have been studies done since it was written, but it is a caring, loving look at one of nature's finest creatures.
The dream you had is VERY important. You have a deep spiritual connection to this wolf/dog your friend just adopted. When you meet Wolf, you'll feel that connection as well. He is soulful, and by that I mean SOUL-FILLED. This dog is going to play an extremely important role in the next twelve years of your life.
He was probably supposed to belong to you and not your friend, but you will never talk your buddy out of that dog now. Can you get married? (To the friend, not the dog?) That would be one way you might get through the Wolf Karma that you carry with you.
There are so many reasons that you could have dreamed of this dog. One could be that in a past life, you were a shape-shifter. This animal could have returned to put you in touch with that part of your past incarnations.
Another could be that you're supposed to save your friend (the owner) spiritually. As a Capricorn, you're probably used to being the heroine in all kinds of icky situations. Well, here is another one, Darlin', and it's BIG this time.
You and that Wolf have had incarnations together for Time Eternal. While it's very rare that a person returns as an animal (you have to beg for that sort of thing), that could be what happened here. It's also possible that you evolved beyond Wolf to Person, and that's why you have a strong connection even though you're human and he's animal this time.
What was he trying to tell you in that dream? He was trying to say that he still loves you, that his feelings for you will never change, and to come to him as soon as possible. He's also trying to tell you that you and this friend have lots of Karma together too.
He is here to help both of you find a new path to Enlightenment in this incarnation. Even if this friend isn't a romantic connection, he's still very important to you, your karma and your future journey.

Given your dream and the fact that your friend actually has a dog of that description, it may be that you were astral projecting to his house. When we astral project, some animals - dogs in particular - can sense or see our presence. In fact, when a house contains spirits, animals are often the first to notice them.
If you were astral protecting, the dog may very well have followed you around the house, trying to make a connection. Because you don't remember the message he conveyed, you may want to consider the symbolic qualities that dogs and wolves represent as a way to make sense of this experience.
In Native American cultures, wolves and dogs represent loyalty. Both are considered teachers as well as protectors. Whether you were astral projecting to your friend's house or having a prophetic dream about the dog he was about to purchase, the experience you had with this animal signified this quality, for he was not only aware of you, he followed you around to protect his owner, determine why you were there, and keep an eye on you.
Wolves and dogs are also known for their wisdom, so the message he was trying to relay to you could have been one of some importance. You may want to sit down and meditate on this dream to see if you can recall what exactly he was trying to convey to you.
Your own feelings about dogs or wolves may also have contributed to your reaction to this animal, especially since you were not expecting him to be there. If you have a natural fear of animals of this nature, you may have had an aversion to him just by virtue of his presence. I don't feel this dream was trying to warn you of any threat or danger to you or your friend, however.
It will be interesting to see how the dog responds to you when you go visit your friend and encounter it in real life. Watch to see if the dog seems to recognize you or treats you in a familiar or friendly manner. If he appears menacing and defensive around you, take note of that too. Then you will be able to tell if he actually saw your spirit when you astral projected to your friend's house, or if the dream you had was of a more prophetic or symbolic nature.
During the visit, you may spontaneously recall what the dog was trying to tell you in the dream. If so, this will be another indicator that this was indeed an astral experience. Even if you are unable recall the message, the fact that you dreamed of him having a certain type of dog only to discover that he had actually gotten one in real life is amazing and should open your mind to all sorts of other wondrous experiences.

Many times in life we hear, "You will always have what you NEED, but not necessarily what you WANT." Your spirit must have needed to experience the feeling of leaving your human body, and the suggestion in the next chapter of Sylvia Brown's book was all it took to get you there.
Even though you hadn't read it yet, your SOUL recognized the title of that chapter as something it had been seeking, and your soul, knowing that you had that reference to read after your experience, got with it and out you went!
While I don't usually recommend her books, Sylvia Brown has a wide reaching and powerful effect on lots of people. A Gemini like you would be able to relate easily to her writing and put it to good use. Synchronicity - you gotta love it!
I like your description of "getting caught." That's exactly what it feels like, isn't it? One minute you're free and hovering above the room, and the next minute, ZAP! back down into your corporeal form you go!
As a little kid, I loved that "feeling of return." With practice, most of the time we can control that event, but sometimes, when our physical ears hear a distracting noise or something else occurs to knock us back into reality, back we go. With practice you will be able to control your return better.
I find it interesting that you were visiting your mother-in-law and not someone in your own genetic family. Evidently, you and your husband got married for reasons that are even deeper than love. His family's interest in "psychic stuff" will nurture your children in such matters and help them to grow into their own abilities.
You'll never have to be concerned that when your daughter visits them, she'll be discouraged from exploring her own psychic life and power. My parents encouraged me to develop my psychic senses in a time when it wasn't nice to even discuss such things in public. Heck, it's STILL not considered a great topic at the dinner table in some families!
Your kids will get to talk about it ALL and ask questions and read and study. This is going to give them such an edge in life! Talk with your husband about how you want to present this to your kiddos, so that you are united in your approach and ready to tell them their experiences are all natural and okay.
A word or two of warning: Geminis often have difficulty staying grounded in REAL LIFE. Don't get so strung out on your ASTRAL life that you neglect what you're doing here on Earth.
