Lately, I have been sleeping with a stone (rhondite) on my third eye. This stone is said to help with meditation and the recall of past lives. Twice now I have found, when opening my eyes, that there is a silvery thread from the ceiling to my forehead. The first time I thought it might be something like dust or a spider web, so I climbed on the bed to touch the ceiling. Of course, there was nothing there. What do you think this silvery thread may be, and what is this experience telling me?

Each of us has a Ka or life force that extends from various chakras and reaches out to others. Most people can't see this as a visible aura, but those of us who meditate and seek Enlightenment may develop the ability to do so.
What you saw extending from yourself to the ceiling was your life thread, the silver cord that connects all living beings. It probably extended way beyond that, but since you were awake, you couldn't see that part of it. It will wrap around the whole Earth if you let it. You will soon learn to see it when you want to, and use it to help you.
You've chosen to try to find out where you were in your Before Times, and even where you'll be in your After. This path can be difficult, but with time and patience, you can succeed.
You're on the right track! In mentioning that you've been working with stones, you gave me your answer. Since you're seeking to learn about your past lives, your Life Force has been reaching out to try to connect with others in your Ka-Tet or karmic family. Some of those people are alive here on Earth, but many of them are probably waiting for you in an afterlife or sacred place that is as much a part of you as your physical environment is now.
When we pass and cross over, we encounter others we've been with before who for some reason didn't return with us in our current incarnation. Either they didn't want to leave Heaven or they had some other reason for not wanting to be here with us this time.
Coming back as a human being is a choice, and not every member of our karmic family makes that choice every time. Some choose to remain in Celestial Incarnations forever, and the only time we see them again is in meditation or when we join them after we die. Though sometimes it's sad to think that we don't always all return together, everyone is an individual and can make their own choice.
You'll be able to learn to communicate with all of your Ka-Tet now, no matter where they are, by using that silver cord that connects all of you forever.
When you see that light, instead of chasing it, try to bring it closer into your body. If it resists your efforts, try to bend it around your body, going in and out your fingers, toes, and every orifice such as your eyes and nose. Once your meditation gets to that point, you will be able to do more, and the things you want to discover will be revealed to you bit by bit.

Minerals and stones can awaken, heal and protect our spirits. Sleeping with this stone directly on top of your third eye is opening up a channel to Spirit. As you may be aware, once our third eye opens, we gain the ability to see many things that are indiscernible to the physical eye.
The silvery thread you saw is an opening to another dimension, one that should continue to grow stronger and more evident as you continue this practice. It represents a direct connection to the Universe and your spiritual source of power.
We are all surrounded by many spiritual threads and chords that connect us to Spirit and the world around us. Like the energy centers within us known as the chakras, these become more evident as we grow in our spirituality.
Just as when we feel a connection to another person, there are invisible attachments we make that can be described as metaphysical strands or threads that tie us to one another. This is why, when we lose a relationship, it can be difficult to detach from it or let it go.
These spiritual ties can be strengthened when we give them energy or diminished when we move away from the connection. When people move away from their higher source, these threads diminish, wither and close up. When we are seeking spiritual growth and enlightenment and practicing daily to awaken metaphysically, these threads become stronger and begin to create a powerful ribbon of connection.
Rhondite is a wonderful stone for opening up your heart, grounding and healing your physical body, and awakening your inner spirit. Now that you have created a visible bond between yourself and the Universe, you may want to consider alternating different stones to awaken your psychic gifts and intuition. Stones such as tanzanite, amethyst and moonstone will make wonderful additions to your spiritual quest for enlightenment.
You can also wear or carry these stones with you or meditate with them in your awakened state. As you continue to work with these stones, you should witness the thread of silvery light growing stronger and more visible.

Many times in life we hear, "You will always have what you NEED, but not necessarily what you WANT." Your spirit must have needed to experience the feeling of leaving your human body, and the suggestion in the next chapter of Sylvia Brown's book was all it took to get you there.
Even though you hadn't read it yet, your SOUL recognized the title of that chapter as something it had been seeking, and your soul, knowing that you had that reference to read after your experience, got with it and out you went!
While I don't usually recommend her books, Sylvia Brown has a wide reaching and powerful effect on lots of people. A Gemini like you would be able to relate easily to her writing and put it to good use. Synchronicity - you gotta love it!
I like your description of "getting caught." That's exactly what it feels like, isn't it? One minute you're free and hovering above the room, and the next minute, ZAP! back down into your corporeal form you go!
As a little kid, I loved that "feeling of return." With practice, most of the time we can control that event, but sometimes, when our physical ears hear a distracting noise or something else occurs to knock us back into reality, back we go. With practice you will be able to control your return better.
I find it interesting that you were visiting your mother-in-law and not someone in your own genetic family. Evidently, you and your husband got married for reasons that are even deeper than love. His family's interest in "psychic stuff" will nurture your children in such matters and help them to grow into their own abilities.
You'll never have to be concerned that when your daughter visits them, she'll be discouraged from exploring her own psychic life and power. My parents encouraged me to develop my psychic senses in a time when it wasn't nice to even discuss such things in public. Heck, it's STILL not considered a great topic at the dinner table in some families!
Your kids will get to talk about it ALL and ask questions and read and study. This is going to give them such an edge in life! Talk with your husband about how you want to present this to your kiddos, so that you are united in your approach and ready to tell them their experiences are all natural and okay.
A word or two of warning: Geminis often have difficulty staying grounded in REAL LIFE. Don't get so strung out on your ASTRAL life that you neglect what you're doing here on Earth.
