-Â John Sutherland Bonnell
Years ago, when I was studying to become a Spiritualist minister, I became aware that I was often taken less seriously than my peers. I was considerably younger than most of them, and I was always smiling and laughing and making my classmates laugh along with me. I know my teachers had their doubts about the depth of my devotion to doing the work of Spirit in the world. When they read my thesis, however, they said they were pleasantly surprised by my commitment to helping people heal from grief and other kinds of human suffering. I could have acted more seriously, of course, but I didn't see who or what would benefit from that besides my ego. I believe that anyone who is uplifting and positive is doing the work of Spirit in the world, for being "light" is the way of "The Light."
