When things fall apart in dramatic ways, it’s often because we were stubbornly sticking to a path that didn’t lead where we really wanted or needed to go. This often happens in relationships in which we are determined that a certain someone is our one and only soul mate: if this relationship doesn’t work out, then surely we’ll be miserable and alone forevermore. It also happens with jobs, homes, projects and paths we cling to because we hope that they’re the answers to our prayers, or because we’re afraid if we give them up, we’ll never find anything better. When we ignore subtle signs and feelings that we’re heading in the wrong direction, we travel a long way down the wrong road, and the Universe has to create mudslides and avalanches and all sorts of other scary stuff to get our attention and motivate us to change course. This is why, when things fall apart, it often means that we’re being forcefully aligned with something better.
