hindsight

At various points in our lives, or on a quest, and for reasons that often remain obscure, we are driven to make decisions which prove with hindsight to be loaded with meaning.
– Swami Satchidananda

As we look back over our lives, it can be easy to see how key decisions led to important and seemingly destined developments. When I look back, for example, I can see how feeling that I just HAD to attend a certain university was ultimately about meeting the man who would father my children, for the moment I first saw him, I knew we would be married one day. I can also see how sudden impulses to reach out to strangers led to some of the greatest friendships of my life. What’s not so easy to see is how our inactions may prove important: how waiting a while longer, being patient and pondering until our next step became clear may have kept us in line with divine timing. From a higher perspective, these stops and pauses are just as consequential as our big, bold moves forward. If you’re weighing your options and you’re not yet sure what to do, you can trust that you’re just where you need to be right now, and when the time comes for you to make a new move or decision, you will know what to do, and feel compelled to take action.
