Though no one who knows me well would call me an atheist, it does seem to me that thoughtful atheism is wiser and ultimately more reverant than blind faith. I have a lot of friends who call themselves atheists, but when we get right down to what each one of us really thinks, we are actually for the most part in agreement, for none of us believes there is a bearded man in the clouds who is punishing sinners with bad luck and rewarding do-gooders with cash bonuses, lucky breaks and sunny weather. While I have had a lot of mind-blowing spiritual experiences that have led me to believe that we all have souls/spirits, I am at the same time a skeptic, for I believe that we are wise to question the myths and fables of our cultures, and to actively explore the true nature of reality for ourselves.
