– Rainer Maria Rilke
Relationships – be them with our children, parents, lovers or friends – can and will drive us crazy sometimes. From a higher perspective, this is all good, for if relationships weren’t so challenging, they wouldn’t be such powerful spiritual teachers. We are all constantly working on becoming better lovers by embracing others and ourselves despite our perceived shortcomings and personal issues. Our spiritual goal is not to somehow find our way to a place where we constantly feel like life is perfect and people are never disappointing; our goal is find our way to a place where we can love ourselves and others even though we’re all sometimes crabby, irrational, difficult, self-focused, inconsiderate, and all those other things that make us human. Be easy on yourself and others and wish everyone well, for we are all struggling with the same basic challenge: to learn how to love life, ourselves and each other as perfectly imperfect.
