I think we all go through phases when life seems pretty smooth and easy, and then out of nowhere, we are suddenly being put through the spiritual ringer again. When I step back and examine my journey as a whole, I can see how, before those periods, I’m usually starting to wonder what will come next: I’m starting to get bored or dispassionate about whatever I’ve been doing, and to long for new and different experiences. Perhaps that wondering sends out a signal to the Universe that we’re ready for the next big spiritual challenge. I do know that, the more we grow accustomed to feeling like we have our act together, the more big spiritual challenges can unpleasantly take us by surprise. If you’re struggling, it’s a sure sign that you’re growing, which means that whatever you’re going through will prove important to your journey. While I don’t enjoy stress, pain and suffering any more than anyone else, I do know that if I’m really struggling, it means I’m really learning, and am tapping into some powerful new potential.
