We all do it sometimes: we come up with a great plan or dream and we throw ourselves into it with all we’ve got, and then when it doesn’t go the way we want it to go, we grow more and more frustrated and discouraged. We all get tunnel vision: only this job, this relationship, this path will bless us with the love, happiness, prosperity and/or well-being we are so desperately craving. In truth, of course, if we step back and look at the big picture, we can see that there are infinite paths to where we want to go: there are countless wonderful people in the world to love, there are endless ways to earn a living, there innumerable paths that lead to the place we want to end up. When what we think we want doesn’t pan out, we’re wise to trust that there must be a safer, more reliable, or more direct path to fulfillment than the one we’ve been stubbornly clinging to. This is why it is always wise to ask the Universe for what we think we want or something better,
and to trust that not getting what we think we have to have will somehow prove positive in the long run.
