The other night, I had dinner with a friend who just earned her doctorate. It has been a very long and challenging journey to this huge accomplishment, but at last she’s made it. When asked what she’s doing with her time now that she’s accomplished this feat, she replied, I’m trying to calm the $%#! down,
which elicited a lot of laughs. It also reminded me of how we all get so wrapped up in whatever we think is important in this moment that we start to blow things way out of proportion, take things way too seriously, and forget that everything in life is temporary. Life can be an arduous, woeful trek up a neverending mountain, but it can also be an easy walk on the beach if we simply remember to lighten up and enjoy ourselves.
