– Richard Bach
Both in my private psychic reading practice and the advice columns here at Kajama, I receive more questions about “soul mates” than any other topic. I believe that as religion has lost its power and influence in our lives, the cult of romance has taken up the slack. Our existential hunger for something more is no longer channeled into prayer or other spiritual practices; instead, we’re obsessed with finding fulfillment through “true love.” Unfortunately, nothing outside ourselves will emotionally sustain us indefinitely. Relationships are so full of heartache, and addictions lead to so much misery, because we’re looking for lasting fulfillment in a temporary source. I believe that in many ways, our fascination with “soul mates” is at a deeper level, a longing to rediscover our own divine selves.
