[title size=”2″]Seeing Colors When I Close My Eyes[/title]

I’m Jess, a 24-year-old Earthy Leo and my entire life, whenever I close my eyes, I see many changing colors.
Until a year ago it’s something I’ve always thought to be normal, something I thought that everyone else also experienced. It wasn’t until I was in my most special and spiritual space in the San Juan Islands that I discovered I have a beautiful and unique ability to feel through colors that plays off of my emotions and also reacts to music. (At least that’s been my experience thus far.)
While I was with one of my best of friends, listening to music as I lay on a sunny roof with eyes closed, the sounds of the different instruments danced along the insides of eyelids in a symphony of color. I noticed that each instrument was represented by a different color. I saw that the drums were reds and oranges. The flutes, turquoise. Violin, purple. Bass, blue/purple. The instruments that were higher notes were the colors at the top of my eyelids, with the lower sounds towards the bottom, but they play together and also meet in the middle.
I told my friend what I was experiencing, and she told me she only saw black when she closed her eyes. I have asked a few others what they saw when they closed their eyes, they said the same thing. Except for my Dad, he said he sees reds and purples (which I thought was interesting because he plays bass guitar and acoustic guitar in a band).
At any given time I close my eyes however, I see colors. Sometimes it’s just one color, and sometimes it’s many. It’s never overwhelming, always pleasant. Frequently they are like firework type shapes or wavelengths. When I close my eyes and look towards the sun, I see bright, bright yellows, reds, and oranges. I see tan when I look towards sand, and blue when there is a clear sky.
I have always had an obsession with color, it’s the first thing I notice whenever I enter a new environment. I think that’s why I’m a painter, to understand, feel, and process through color. The more I pay attention to the colors I see, the more I discover.
