I often sun gaze to restore my spiritual center, energize my spirit, and engage in my own form of cosmic meditation. This goes against almost everything we were taught about protecting our eyes from the sun as children, but I can’t argue with the results.
The optimal times to go are an hour following sunrise and the hour preceding sunset. I’ve found that you can swing it at different times as long as you are careful. The method I use is to stand in the bare dirt of earth and just gaze into the sun. You do this until tears begin to well in your eyes. The resulting afterimage in the blackness of my eyelids goes through an entire rainbow of colors and transforms over time.
Recently, I sat ruminating on the universe, being thankful, and radiating love out of my own Self just as the sun radiates it to us. There is a girl I’m in love with and we have had a variety of spiritual experiences together. Right around the point that I felt most centered, tears almost streaming from my eyes, I felt so suffused with love and beauty. At that moment, I got a text from her. She was napping and swore at that exact moment, she heard her door shut and a loving presence enter the room and give her a hearty hello.
Though I was not there, I can’t help but think that the ties of our love coupled with the energy I was emanating made this synchronous event possible.
