It was a day of cleanup in the garage. My husband and I managed to clear out all of the stuff in the garage by putting it in the driveway. We then started to dust, sweep, and undertake all the other necessary cleaning tasks. My husband has MS, and while he is in good shape given his health challenges, his balance is not great. Saying that, we both started to do our own thing.
We have a two-car garage so it is quite wide. Rob, my husband, was on one side and I was on the other with my back to him as I knelt to sweep out a corner by the entrance to our inside door. I had no idea that Rob was up on a ladder until I came halfway up from my knees and turned to look his way. At that very moment, the ladder was tipping over, and Rob was falling backward.
To this day, I can’t explain what happened next. I know it was not me who got me there in a flash. It was my body, but it didn’t move of its own volition. It felt like someone picked me up from my shoulders and shifted me over to where he was. I managed to cup his shoulders and head in my arms and catch him as his body and the ladder fell in my direction. I helped soften the fall as I followed his body in my arms to the floor. Rob was unhurt except for a scrape on his leg.
We both believe that his Angels guided me and helped me to catch him, for there is no way given where I was and what I was doing that I could have made it to him in time to catch him otherwise. Given the height he was at when he fell and the concrete floor beneath him, we don’t like to think about what might have happened had someone not been watching over him. To this day, I can still feel myself being picked up by the shoulders; my feet never touched that garage floor. Thank you, Angels!
