I seem to have an endless capacity for being disappointed by people’s bad behavior and disturbed by the horrible stories in the news. Almost every day, I have to remind myself that this has been the nature of human beings throughout time: There are evil, selfish people in the world, and there always will be. Of course, there are also people who embody more love, wisdom and kindness than I have ever personally mustered. The reason this world is such a tremendous spiritual adventure is because it is so full of contrast: light and dark, birth and death, love and hate. The more we make peace with all of this contrast, the more we can enjoy all the beauty and goodness in the world.
