– Evelyn Waugh
If we have to abstain from earthly pleasures in order to be admitted into heaven, what happens then? Are we rewarded by being allowed all the sensual delights we’ve forsaken, or do we have to continue to abstain from the pleasures we find most delightful? If we are allowed to satisfy our desires for pleasure in heaven, then how can doing so on earth be wrong? After all, is it not ideal to have life on earth as it is in heaven? It makes sense to me that whatever brings us the greatest pleasure was made to feel good to us because we’re supposed to enjoy it!
