Everyone wants to be wise, but no one wants to be troubled. If you think about it, ‘wisdom’ is ultimately the ability to handle trouble with skill, and like any other skill, it’s developed through practice. Wise people are thus folks who have been blessed with a life rich with problems, challenges, mistakes and upsets. We all must deal with trouble of one sort or another throughout our lives; some of us are just lucky to be given a bit more than most. In the past month or so, I’ve had to deal with one worst case scenario after another, and strangely, it has made me more calm instead of more anxious. I no longer worry about those crises happening, for I’ve already conquered them. I know that if they happen again, I will again survive.
