Eight Psychic Movies To Check Out

I have an affinity for watching movies about psychics and people who tend to discover their psychic abilities quite by accident. It speaks to the truth that we all possess spiritual gifts and simply need to allow them to surface. Although there aren't a lot of psychic movies out there, over the years I have run across a few that are my favorites. Here is a brief description of my top 8 choices, starting with number 8 and working my way down to number 1. I hope you'll find this list helpful when looking for an inspiring movie, as well as one that reflects your own experiences with the psychic world.

8. The Dead Zone (1983) Based on a Stephen King novel, this movie follows the life of a school teacher who awakens with psychic powers after falling into a coma. Starring Christopher Walken as a reluctant psychic who hesitates to use his powers, (which I think is common among us when we first discover our abilities) once he finally agrees to use his gifts, amazing things start to happen.

7. Ghost (1990) One of the top grossing movies of 1990, many people are familiar with this film, one I could watch over and over again. The all-star cast features Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and the memorable Whoopi Goldberg as another reluctant psychic. Romantic, funny and uplifting, this is one of my favorite movies about a medium who is able to connect with spirits on the other side.

6. Phenomenon (1996) Starring John Travolta and Kyra Sedgwick. Suddenly struck psychic after watching a strange light in the sky, George (Travolta) begins to experience abilities beyond his explanation. He is shunned by the locals for his seemingly odd behavior, which leads him to isolate. This is not uncommon for people when they discover they have psychic powers. Once he successfully predicts an earthquake, people start to take an interest.

5. The Gift (2000) Starring Cate Blanchett, Keanu Reeves and Greg Kinnear, this movie revolves around a clairvoyant fortune teller who keeps getting visions of a girl who has gone missing. Through a series of twists and turns, the psychic Annie is able to locate the girl and detail what has happened to her. But that's not the end of the story, so to avoid a "spoiler alert", I'll just say that this movie demonstrates the power of psychic visions and clairvoyance!

4. The Green Mile (1999) Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan - Yet another Stephen King novel that centers around psychic gifts, this is the story of a prison guard (Hanks) and a very unique prisoner (Clarke Duncan) who possesses a number of psychic gifts. His ability to heal as well as his keen ability to see visions will stir your imagination and endear this gifted psychic to your heart.

3. The Sixth Sense (1999) Starring Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment. Young Cole Sear (Osment) sees dead people. When his mother solicits the help of psychiatrist Malcom Crowe (Willis) to come to the aid of her son, things begin to unfold in the most interesting of manners!

2. Vibes (1988) Featuring Cindi Lauper and Jeff Goldblum. This is one of my favorite psychic movies of all time, and although it's a bit "campy", the interaction between psychic Sylvia (Lauper) and skeptic Nick (Goldblum) is enchanting and fun! Lots of adventure here as Sylvia follows the directives of her spirit guide "Louise" on an adventure that takes them to South America to explore hidden mysteries in the Andes. Great fun for the whole family!

Hereafter (2010) Directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Matt Damon, this tops the list as my favorite metaphysical movie of all time! Matt Damon plays yet another reluctant psychic who is thrown into the lives of two other people who have had life-changing experiences. As a gifted channeler, George Lonegan (Damon) must help these people, who are searching for deeper understanding of the afterlife and how to move forward. Even if you pass on the other movies listed above, Hereafter is one you won't want to miss!

Happy viewing!
