Double Vision: Is it Unspiritual to Desire Fame and Fortune?

I have always had this feeling that I was meant to be rich and famous, but it's never come true. I realized something today: Maybe this is what I'm looking for in a man - someone who is powerful and wealthy. On the other hand, I want to be the one who has the freedom to pursue anything, go anywhere, spend money frivolously and attract lots of attention. Am I just a very selfish, unspiritual person? Am I messing up my karma and happiness by desiring such superficial things? I would love to just be able to pay my bills and raise my children without such struggle. Should I focus all my energy on that instead of wanting fame and fortune?

Dreamchaser:

Lisa, you have no idea what you want, do you? On one hand, you say you would love to be rich and famous. On the other hand, you say you would love to just be able to pay your bills and raise your children without struggle.

Then you say you would like to find a rich and powerful man. On the other hand, you say you want to be footloose and fancy-free. As long as you have no idea what you want, you will continue to get nothing.

There is no harm, no bad karma, and no punishment or penalty at all for wanting to be prosperous on ALL levels. The Universe/ God/ Spirit/ whatever name you prefer wants you to have whatever you want.

Besides, the more money good people have, the more they can help those who are less fortunate. So someone like you getting a bunch of money would be a good thing, because you would help a whole lot of people who are less fortunate than you are. That in itself is one really good reason for you to have what you want, but there are many other good reasons too.

The Universe is not holding out on you, Lisa. You are holding yourself back from fulfillment by not knowing what you want. You can't ask the Universe for something if you don't know what it is.

Your homework is to figure out what you really want. It doesn't matter if you think you can actually HAVE it or not - just pick what you want and then spend about 15 minutes a day imagining what it would be like to have it. Allow your mind to go there. Allow yourself to play make believe. REALLY feel what it would be like to have what you want and be who you want to be.

I'm reading a new book now called The Law of Attraction by Esther and Jerry Hicks. In it, they repeat over and over how we get what we think about whether we want it or not.

I recommend you start thinking about what you want, and quit thinking about what you don't want. You might want to pick up this book too, as I feel it would help you a lot.

Also, please let go of that outdated and completely false belief that wanting financial abundance is greedy and sinful. It's not! We were just raised in a puritanical society that somehow made self-denial look honorable.

All we have to do is ask for what we want, for the Universe will handle the HOW part. We don't have to try to control how blessings will come into our lives: we just ask and they come.

Figure out what you really want so you can start asking for it, and please don't feel bad, Lisa. I can't tell you how many people have no idea what they want either.

I wish you great fun in discovering your true desires.

It certainly seems reasonable to me to want enough money to pay your bills and take care of your kids! The Universe wants us to do everything in our power to be happy, and it works with us and for us to that end.

Wanting to feel more blessed and more important is normal - you're just one of the few people brave enough to admit it! Everyone wants abundance and most people do all they can to get it.

Feeling average is what is keeping you average. Don't let that feeling control you or make you feel trapped in your current circumstances. At one time you had some specific goals and dreams that would carry you to the fame and fortune you desire. You just need to revive those goals and dreams and pursue them with all your heart. It really is up to you what happens in your life.

Of course, the Universe doesn't just hand out fame and fortune. When things don't work out the way people want them to, I often hear them say they guess it just wasn't meant to be. While I'm chatting with them, they'll say, I guess I'm just meant to be alone, or I guess I'm not meant to have the job I want, or I guess this relationship isn't meant to work out.

This sort of thinking is illusionary and leaves people feeling helpless and disempowered about their own future. It also runs counter to the Law of Attraction, which tells us that we create our own realities, and if we focus on what we want, we will get it. If we feel too overwhelmed to deal with our lives or fulfill big dreams, we can always turn to higher sources for aid.

When people blame destiny for things not working out, they tend to use it as an excuse to give up on goals that just take more effort than they want to expend. People who are rich and famous usually don't get that way because it's meant to be, but because they work hard and focus their energy on fulfilling their dreams.

Regardless of what you may see on TV, no one is discovered simply because it's their destiny to be. It may seem like the rich and famous have better luck than the rest of us, but their success is a result of their conscious intentions and focused efforts.

We shape and control our own destiny: what we do with the life we're given is up to us. We have the free will to choose to fulfill big dreams or to sort of coast along through life. Each one of us is born with the potential to become rich, psychic, married, educated, loved, or whatever we long to be.

Figure what you really want and go out and get it, Tiger! By pursuing your dreams, you're not being selfish or unreasonable at all.

Many times in life we hear, "You will always have what you NEED, but not necessarily what you WANT." Your spirit must have needed to experience the feeling of leaving your human body, and the suggestion in the next chapter of Sylvia Brown's book was all it took to get you there.

Even though you hadn't read it yet, your SOUL recognized the title of that chapter as something it had been seeking, and your soul, knowing that you had that reference to read after your experience, got with it and out you went!

While I don't usually recommend her books, Sylvia Brown has a wide reaching and powerful effect on lots of people. A Gemini like you would be able to relate easily to her writing and put it to good use. Synchronicity - you gotta love it!

I like your description of "getting caught." That's exactly what it feels like, isn't it? One minute you're free and hovering above the room, and the next minute, ZAP! back down into your corporeal form you go!

As a little kid, I loved that "feeling of return." With practice, most of the time we can control that event, but sometimes, when our physical ears hear a distracting noise or something else occurs to knock us back into reality, back we go. With practice you will be able to control your return better.

I find it interesting that you were visiting your mother-in-law and not someone in your own genetic family. Evidently, you and your husband got married for reasons that are even deeper than love. His family's interest in "psychic stuff" will nurture your children in such matters and help them to grow into their own abilities.

You'll never have to be concerned that when your daughter visits them, she'll be discouraged from exploring her own psychic life and power. My parents encouraged me to develop my psychic senses in a time when it wasn't nice to even discuss such things in public. Heck, it's STILL not considered a great topic at the dinner table in some families!

Your kids will get to talk about it ALL and ask questions and read and study. This is going to give them such an edge in life! Talk with your husband about how you want to present this to your kiddos, so that you are united in your approach and ready to tell them their experiences are all natural and okay.

A word or two of warning: Geminis often have difficulty staying grounded in REAL LIFE. Don't get so strung out on your ASTRAL life that you neglect what you're doing here on Earth.

You are at the beginning of a long journey to learn where your power really lies. Try to be patient with this process and take your time.
