“There are two kinds of failures: The man who will do nothing he is told, and the man who will do nothing else.” – Perle Thompson
Recently I observed a couple of people push themselves past the point of exhaustion into total collapse. I noticed that they had something in common: they put more value on others’ praise and approval than their own personal judgment. We all love to be praised and appreciated, but when our need for outer strokes is so great that it takes precedence over our basic well-being, we become approval addicts. If we are obsessed with impressing others, we’re already failing to love, take care of and think for ourselves.
