“The more balanced our lives, the more serene we feel.”
– Ann Smith
I tend to be an all or nothing person — a recipe for stress. If I’m trying to lose weight, for example, I will go overboard and eat too little while working out too much, which leaves me low on energy and generally cranky. This morning I caught sight of myself naked in the mirror, and true to my nature, suddenly decided that in the course of about a week, I had “let myself go.” Logically, of course, I know that this doesn’t happen in a few days, and there is certainly no reason to take drastic measures just because I’ve relaxed my disciplines a little bit. This time, I’m going to try to take a moderate approach to feeling better, for I’ve learned that extreme reactions ultimately leave me feeling worse, while a gentle approach to life leads me to peace and lasting success.
