Dear Double Vision:
I have had many unusual spiritual experiences. Other people tell me that they can’t be real, that beings can’t jump into my body, and I can’t take on their emotions and beliefs. They tell me that I am imagining things and should address my own issues. Well, I don’t go looking for these experiences, and they don’t seem to have a purpose or meaning. It makes me mad that even so-called spiritual people say these things I experience can’t happen, that I must be imagining them. This has been troubling for me for most of my life, and I don’t know where else to turn. So my question is, How do you know when you’re a medium, and where do you go from there?
Cheryl, the first thing I want to ask you is why are you asking other people if something that happened to you was real or not? Why do you doubt the validity of your own experiences? Often late at night, my bed will start shaking. Now, I am sure there are lots of people who think that just cannot happen, for it does not make any logical sense. Nevertheless, it is very real. I know it is because I am in the bed and holding on to the sides when it happens!
I have had so many strange experiences happen to me or around me that others would say are
impossible – if I told them about them! Stop asking people who weren’t even there if what you experienced was real. How would they know? You are starting to question your own sanity because people who do not know any better are telling you that you’re wrong in your interpretation of your own experiences.
When spirits choose me as a channel, I absolutely can sense their thoughts and emotions. I have to understand them to be able to pass on what they are saying. If they are happy, I can feel that. I do not assume the spirits’ personalities, but I absolutely can feel their emotions. For example, when we watch someone we love accomplish a goal, we can feel their pride and happiness – it touches our hearts and we are proud for them. This is much the same: You are able to feel people’s emotions, but those feelings do not become your own emotions.
I also have huge issues with these so-called spiritual people you refer to in your question. A truly spiritual person would never tell you that ANYTHING is impossible. A truly spiritual person would know that anything is possible. Just because I can’t astral travel at will does not mean that it is impossible and no one else can do it. In my opinion, a spiritual person who tells you that what you’ve experienced is impossible is not all that spiritual after all.
Now, to wrap this all up in a pretty package, let me answer your question: You know you are a medium when you can see, sense, smell, feel or hear dead people in your head, or even perceive them in the room with you. Either is equally valid. If you can’t see with your eyes, it is okay – neither can I. I see them in my head, and I KNOW they are real. I will get a whiff of something like cigarette smoke, and I will know that the person smoked cigarettes. I will visualize a place in my head and I know that is their
heaven. Do not expect to see things in the room with you; that does not happen very often.
Where you go from here is your lesson. If you let them, some of the spirits you hear will guide you along the right path. Follow that path!
Yes, by all means, address your
own issues. What other people tell you must be obeyed at all times, right? PLEASE! How could anyone say what is
wrong about something as abstract and esoteric as becoming a medium? I feel that what you’re experiencing is actually happening to you; I don’t get from what you wrote to us that you’re imagining any of this.
First, let’s address these spirits who are
jumping in and out of you. That sounds very unpleasant. If you want to continue to communicate with any or all of these beings, you have to center yourself so you’re in control. There are some steps you should take to avoid them
jumping into your person. A true medium is able to control what is going on in her psyche. You must learn to do this only when you desire to do it. Being at the mercy of spirits sounds awful to me. Also, you want to be able to choose which beings can come through you and which cannot.
First, correct your diet to get physically stronger. Limit your intake of red meat; stick to chicken and fish. When was the last time you ate a whole apple, miss? You’re eating too many refined carbs, which will open up negative channels both physically and psychically. Eat at least two whole pieces of fruit every day, and cut back on the junk. Icky spirit energy loves junk food. If you use alcohol at all, well, sorry – that has to go too. Maybe a glass of wine with dinner, but that’s about your limit if you’re going to become a channel for spirits. Even though this is spiritual work, it draws on physical energy. You need to be strong, healthy and serene.
Also, add in daily exercise that gets your heart rate up for at least thirty minutes. You’ll clear your mind while you’re doing the exercise, and you’ll strengthen all your energy fields. Finally, try Tai Chi or yoga – something that goes from one Still Point to the next Still Point and keeps your chakras open and receptive. This will create a force field to bounce the negative spirits away from you while welcoming the friendly, gentle ones to come through – WHEN THEY ARE INVITED!
Part of what I do involves being a medium for Souls who have crossed over. It’s not my favorite skill, and it’s somewhat limited in me. I can’t communicate with my own family the way I would like to, but I do get to speak with many other souls who are no longer here on the Earth Plane. Sometimes they come through very forcefully, but I have trained myself not to let them
jump in. (It still does happen, but it’s rare and causes me to have migraines.) Get past that point so you can begin to help others with your gifts.
